When Vander is purchased from an orphanage, he expects to be given a position as a serving boy for the high class Harshire family. Instead, he is treated like a son, sent to school, and trained in the ways of the upper class. Different from his peers, Vander is bullied until the Harshire butler reveals the true reason he selected Vander from the others.
Vander has a secret, one of magic and darkness that has not been seen for decades. The path of a shadow vampire is a perilous one, but one that can send ripples into the dark underbelly of the ruling class and change the future of Vail forever.
When danger arises, Vander has to decide which path to follow and how to protect those he has come to care about without revealing his true nature.
